HENRY DUKES, SR. Obituary

HENRY  LEE  DUKES, SR. was born July 23, 1937 to the late Cleveland Dukes and Jeannetta Packer Bishop in Lower Petry ,AL.  He departed this life July 26, 2018.  Henry left home at the early age of 14 years old and traveled from state to state working until he met the love of his life.  Emma (Formerly Price), whom he married in 1959.  During the 59 years that they shared together were born six children.  After moving his family from Florida in 1962, they settled in Milton, Delaware.  Henry worked hard at King Cole Canning Company as a truck driver, then as  a mechanic..  Buying the property that they lived on until his passing.  Henry then went to work at Doxsee Clam factory workingalso as a mechanic.  He often said 'he should be rich' because he invented a part that made the machine run better, but he never got  the credit  for it.  This did not stop Henry from taking good care of his family.  After the closing of Doxsee , he then went to work at Paramount and Perdue chicken factories working also as a mechanic until he retired.

Henry co-owned with hisl late  brother-in-law Aaron Price, Sr. their own septic business.  He successfully worked to expand the business until he was not able to work on it anymore, he turned the business over to one of his grandchildren.  Even though Henry only finished the 10th grade, he had a unique ability to visualize and build things ( we saw it as 'genius').  Henry built the home that is on the property himself, from the ground up, he made grills,, and invented machine parts.  Although blessed with exceptional talent, Henry was not selfish--he didn't mind lending a helping hand to anyone that needed one.  In 2005, Henry and his wife joined Mt. Zion Holy Church in Milton, DE where he attended faithfully until his health failed.

Henry will be truly missed, and we will cherish fond memories of his time with us.
